The Lhasa Apso originally came from the Himalayan mountains centuries ago. He was mainly a house guard dog, protecting Buddhist monasteries and the homes of Tibetan nobles. He needs to mix with people early in life to help him be comfortable around his owners. In 1933, he was introduced to America by the 13th Dalai Lama.
He’s an independent dog with a mischievous, joyful personality. He excels in shows, especially in the agility category. His coat’s colour can vary from blonde through to black. He often has black tips on his face and ears. He loves families and older children and needs regular walks. Because of his long coat, he must be groomed regularly. His height is 10 – 11 inches.
